"Breaking Barriers: Nina Singh Makes History as First Woman to Lead CISF in Landmark Appointments"
In a groundbreaking development, Nina Singh has shattered glass ceilings by becoming the first woman to head the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The announcement was part of a series of key appointments, with three Manipur-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officers taking charge of central paramilitary forces.
Nina Singh, a distinguished 1989-batch IPS officer, currently serves as the Special Director General of CISF. The force, responsible for managing security at airports, the Delhi Metro, government buildings, and strategic installations across the nation, will now be led by Singh. Having held the additional charge of CISF DG since the retirement of Sheel Vardhan Singh on August 31, Singh's leadership extends until her retirement on July 31, 2024. Originally hailing from Bihar, Singh joined the IPS as a cadre officer from Manipur and later moved to the Rajasthan cadre.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also given its nod to Rahul Rasgotra, an Intelligence Bureau veteran, as the new chief of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). A 1989-batch IPS officer and current special director in the Intelligence Bureau, Rasgotra's extensive experience, spanning nearly three decades, positions him strategically as the ITBP chief. His tenure is set until September 30, 2025, coinciding with his superannuation.
Simultaneously, Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Holding the CRPF DG post in an additional capacity in recent weeks, alongside his responsibilities leading the ITBP, Singh will continue to head the CRPF until his superannuation on December 31, 2024.
Nina Singh's historic appointment not only underscores her trailblazing career but also marks a significant step toward gender inclusivity in India's security forces. Originally recognized for her leadership as the member secretary of the State Women's Commission in 2000, Singh has consistently demonstrated commitment to addressing challenges faced by women in society.
This milestone achievement sets a positive precedent for the inclusion of more women in key leadership roles within India's security apparatus. Kudos to Nina Singh for paving the way! Stay tuned for more updates on these transformative leadership changes.
