Empowering Lives: IAS Officer Jitendra Jorwal's Transformative Initiatives in Rural Punjab
IAS officer Jitendra Jorwal has brought transformative change to the rural communities of Sangrur, Punjab, through a series of innovative initiatives. His 'Schools on Wheels' program has successfully re-engaged children from slum areas in education by making learning interactive and enjoyable. Instead of traditional classrooms, students are taken to various sites like development projects and parks, where they learn through hands-on experiences. This creative approach has led to the re-enrollment of over 100 students, showcasing Jorwal's dedication to making education accessible and appealing to underprivileged children.
Beyond education, Jorwal has addressed critical health concerns, such as anaemia in schoolchildren. By revising the mid-day meal program and promoting iron-rich foods, he tackled the root causes of anaemia, bringing down the incidence from 48% to 4% in just six months. His initiatives extend to women's empowerment as well, engaging self-help groups (SHGs) in producing school and police uniforms, which generated significant income for these communities. Through his efforts, Jorwal has not only improved the quality of education and health but also created economic opportunities, fostering sustainable growth and development in the region.
