"From Jogging to Plogging: Ripu Daman Bevli, India's 'Plogman,' Leads the Charge Against Garbage"

Meet Ripu Daman Bevli, fondly known as the 'Plogman of India,' who transformed a simple jog into a nationwide movement to combat litter and promote fitness. Seven years ago, this former techie and fitness enthusiast from Delhi embarked on a mission to clean up the nation, making the act of picking up trash while jogging not only cool but also inspiring.

During a visit to Coimbatore in October, Ripu engaged residents in a 'trash workout,' combining exercises with waste management lessons for children and their parents. The positive response fueled his vision for lasting change, emphasizing the importance of waste reduction, segregation, and creating a circular economy.

Ripu's journey began with two goals: addressing the garbage crisis and staying fit. Collaborating with the government, his eco-fitness activity gained momentum, leading to successful initiatives like cleaning Chennai's beaches and participating in the International Coastal Clean-Up Day with the Tamil Nadu government.

Now, Ripu aims to inspire Indians to join the #PlasticUpvaas social media challenge, encouraging people to reduce their dependence on disposables and single-use items. He plans a Plastic Upvaas Yatra, a run from Delhi to Mumbai, to mobilize more participants. With alarming statistics revealing India's daily generation of 26,000 tonnes of solid waste, Ripu's mission focuses on preventing littered streets and clogged drains.

Reflecting on his victories, Ripu recalls school children in Delhi becoming change agents by convincing local shopkeepers to eliminate polythene bags. With over 100 cities participating in his clean-up drives, Ripu Daman Bevli is not just a 'Plogman' but a catalyst for a cleaner, healthier India.
