Rising from humble beginnings in a small village, Colonel Rana has shattered barriers and blazed a trail as the first woman from Himachal Pradesh to command a battalion in the Indian Army.


Born and raised in Bhawanipur village in Solan district, Sapna's childhood aspirations knew no bounds. Despite the absence of influential connections, her relentless pursuit of success was unwavering. Fuelled by her dreams and supported by her parents' encouragement, Sapna embarked on a journey of academic and personal growth that would defy expectations.


Leaving behind the familiar comforts of her village, Sapna pursued higher education in Solan, displaying resilience and resourcefulness at every step. Her determination to excel led her to pursue an MBA degree at Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla, with aspirations of entering the Civil Services.


However, fate had a different path in store for her. In a bold and decisive move, Sapna seized the opportunity to join the Indian Army through the Combined Defence Services exam. With unwavering dedication and perseverance, she navigated the rigorous training at the Officers' Training Academy in Chennai, emerging as a commissioned Lieutenant in 2004.


Colonel Sapna's journey is a testament to her indomitable spirit and multifaceted talents. Not only has she excelled in military leadership, commanding an Army Service Corps battalion in the Northeast, but she has also distinguished herself in sports, aviation, and academics.


Her accolades, including three COAS & General Officer commanding commendation cards, underscore her commitment to excellence and service to the nation. Beyond her achievements, Colonel Sapna Rana's story serves as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come, reminding us that with perseverance and passion, the sky is not the limit — it's just the beginning.
