Healing Lives, Planting Hope: The Transformative Journey of Dr Naperla Praveen

In the rural heartlands of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Naperla Praveen is bridging the gap between healthcare and environmental sustainability. At just 35 years old, this visionary doctor from Punganur is addressing critical health issues like anaemia through free medical camps and creating a greener future by planting 50,000 trees. His journey is a testament to the power of unwavering commitment and the profound impact of small, consistent actions.

A Legacy of Service

Dr. Praveen’s passion for social welfare was deeply rooted in the work of his parents, Dr. Anand Rao and Smt. Sowbhagyavathi Garu, who founded the Rural Health Educational Society in 1994. Their mission was simple yet powerful: to bring free healthcare to underserved rural communities. “Watching my father treat patients in remote villages inspired me to pursue medicine,” Dr. Praveen recalls.

After earning his MBBS in China, Dr. Praveen returned to his hometown, determined to expand his parents’ vision. His medical expertise, combined with his drive for social impact, soon became the backbone of health camps that not only treated diseases but also educated communities on critical health issues, especially anaemia.

Integrating Healthcare and Environmental Conservation

Dr. Praveen’s commitment to public health didn’t stop at medical care. Inspired by his mother’s belief in the connection between health and the environment, he founded the Bhagyanand Botanical Society in 2008. This NGO focuses on environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and urban conservation.

Through this initiative, over 50,000 saplings have been planted, and numerous campaigns promoting pollution control, eco-friendly practices, and clean energy have been launched. “Good health starts with a healthy environment,” he emphasizes, highlighting how trees and clean air are as crucial as medicine in creating sustainable communities.

Overcoming Challenges

Dr. Praveen’s work has not been without obstacles. In tribal areas, he has faced language barriers, cultural differences, and limited infrastructure. Yet, his patience and resourcefulness have enabled him to break through these challenges. By collaborating with local leaders and employing creative communication strategies, such as videos and visual aids, he has educated and empowered communities on hygiene, anaemia prevention, and sustainable living.

Recognitions and Aspirations

Dr. Praveen’s efforts have garnered accolades, including the Ambedkar National Award in 2016 and a commendation letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. Beyond awards, his work is driven by the lives he transforms—like Sarojama from Battamdoddi village, who recovered from severe anaemia under his care, and Vijay’s father, who overcame tuberculosis with his treatment.

A prolific writer, Dr. Praveen also uses literature to advocate for environmental conservation, inspiring action through his impactful works, including Maha Swathathryam.

A Vision for Change

For Dr. Praveen, every tree planted and every life saved represents a step toward a brighter future. Despite financial challenges, his determination fuels his vision of early disease detection, better healthcare access for women, and a sustainable environment. “Whether it’s treating a patient or planting a tree, I believe small steps can create a better world,” he reflects.

As he continues his dual mission of healing people and nurturing the planet, Dr. Praveen’s story is a shining example of how one person’s resolve can uplift entire communities.
