India Shines at Paris Paralympics 2024: Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar Secure Medals in Javelin; Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu Impress in High Jump
Paris, September 2024 – The Paris Paralympics 2024 turned out to be a monumental event for Indian athletes, who demonstrated their dominance in track and field events. Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar showcased exceptional talent in the men’s javelin throw F46 event, earning silver and bronze medals, respectively. The Stade de France witnessed Ajeet Singh’s spectacular final throw of 65.62 meters, a personal best, that secured him the silver medal. Sundar Singh Gurjar, who previously won bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics, repeated his success with a season-best throw of 64.96 meters, earning him the bronze medal.
The competition was fierce from the start. Ajeet Singh initially held third place with a 59.80m throw, while Sundar started strong with a throw of 62.92m. Ajeet’s final throw of 65.62m was a game-changer, moving him into the silver medal position, while Sundar’s best attempt of 64.96m secured the bronze. Cuban athlete Guillermo Varona took the gold with a 66.14m throw.
India's para-athletes also shined in the men’s high jump T6 final. Sharad Kumar clinched the silver medal with a jump of 1.88 meters, and Mariyappan Thangavelu took the bronze with a 1.85-meter jump. American Ezra Frech set a new Paralympic record with a jump of 1.94 meters to claim the gold.
These remarkable performances underscore India's growing dominance in Paralympic sports and the unwavering spirit of its athletes.
