17-Year-Old Armless Archer from India Continues to Defy Odds with Remarkable Performance

In a stunning display of skill and determination, 17-year-old Sheetal Devi, the armless archer from Team India, has secured her place in the round of 16 in the Women’s Individual Compound Open ranking round at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games. Competing at the Esplanade Des Invalides on August 29, 2024, Sheetal scored an impressive 703 out of 720 points. This achievement not only earned her second place but also shattered the previous ranking round world record of 698, set by Great Britain's Phoebe Pine Paterson.

Turkish archer Oznur Girdi Cure claimed the top spot with a world record score of 704 points. Sheetal's remarkable performance guarantees her a direct entry into the round of 16, bypassing the round of 32.

Born with phocomelia syndrome, a rare congenital disorder that left her without arms, Sheetal has been a trailblazer in para sports. She made history at the Asian Para Games last year, becoming the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in a single edition, along with a silver medal.

As the Paris Paralympics progress, Sheetal’s journey continues to inspire, with the country eagerly awaiting her next achievement.
