Indian Team Dominates World Deaf Shooting Championship with 21 Medals
The Indian team returned home to a warm reception after a stellar performance at the second World Deaf Shooting Championship, held in Hannover, Germany. The 13-member Indian squad dominated the event, winning a total of 21 medals—seven gold, seven silver, and six bronze—securing their place at the top of the medal table.
Among the standout performers was Mahit Sandhu, who won gold in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions, along with a silver in air rifle. Sandhu also clinched a mixed air rifle gold with partner Dhanush Srikanth, who himself claimed the men's air rifle gold with record-breaking scores. In other notable achievements, Abhinav Deshwal bagged the gold in the men's 25m standard pistol event, while Shourya Saini won gold in the men’s rifle 3-position event.
The Indian team was expertly guided by coaches Sanjeev Rajput (rifle) and Priti Sharma (pistol), who ensured the athletes delivered their best. This successful campaign in Germany was a historic moment for Indian deaf shooting, as the team not only bagged numerous medals but also set multiple world and championship records.
Ukraine followed in second place with seven gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals, while Germany secured third place.
