"Meerut Entrepreneur Turns Waste into Wealth with Vermicomposting, Earns Rs 1 Crore Annually"

In a remarkable success story, Sana Khan, a resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has turned 500 tonnes of waste into a lucrative business, earning an annual turnover of Rs 1 crore. What started as a fascination with earthworms during a final-year engineering project has blossomed into S J Organics, a thriving vermicomposting venture.

Initially aspiring to become a doctor, Sana's journey took a different turn when she delved into vermicomposting during her engineering project. Enthralled by the world of worms, she decided to scale up the project and, in 2014, with funding from her brother, established S J Organics.

Facing initial setbacks with her business model, Sana pivoted successfully by partnering with contractors to source dairy and biodegradable household waste. Every batch of vermicompost produced by SJ Organics undergoes rigorous lab testing to meet certification standards, and the company also tailors composts to specific soil requirements.

By 2020, the company processed an impressive 500 tonnes of waste, yielding 150 tonnes of high-quality vermicompost each month. Today, S J Organics boasts an annual turnover of Rs 1 crore and provides employment opportunities for over 30 individuals.

Sana's commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond her business. SJ Organics has played a pivotal role in promoting vermicomposting in Meerut, with over 100 schools setting up vermicomposting sites under the company's consultancy. Additionally, the company conducts training programs for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Driven by a vision to popularize organic farming practices nationwide, Sana Khan aims to share her extensive knowledge of vermicomposting, envisioning a greener and more sustainable future not only for Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country.
