Mykare Health: A Game-Changer for Accessible Healthcare in India

When Sunil (name changed), a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, was diagnosed with multiple anterior lipomas requiring surgical excision, his initial reaction was anxiety. The challenges ahead—finding a qualified surgeon, handling insurance paperwork, and enduring the stress of surgery—loomed over him. Yet, thanks to Kerala-based startup Mykare Health, Sunil’s journey turned out to be seamless and affordable, showcasing the company’s mission of revolutionizing healthcare for middle and lower-income communities in South India.

Founded by Senu Sam, Rahmathulla T M, and Joash Philipose, Mykare Health operates with a singular vision: to build India’s largest, affordable healthcare network that prioritizes patient comfort and transparency. This startup, driven by personal experiences and technical acumen, stands apart for its end-to-end service model, ensuring patients feel supported from their first consultation to post-surgical recovery.

Bridging Gaps in Healthcare

Senu, with over 13 years of experience in healthcare sales, was inspired to create Mykare Health after observing significant gaps in the sector. When faced with navigating the system for his father’s surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic, Senu realized that patients often lack essential tools like transparent doctor credentials, clear procedure costs, and insurance clarity. This experience sparked his determination to create a comprehensive solution for patients outside urban, affluent circles.

A Patient-Focused Approach

Mykare Health distinguishes itself through rigorous doctor and hospital vetting processes, involving thorough background checks and reviews against 30 detailed parameters, including NABH certification. This ensures patients receive safe, high-quality care. The platform helps users find suitable surgeons for various planned, non-emergency procedures such as orthopedic and urologic surgeries, laparoscopic treatments, and more.

To combat common patient fears about surgery, Mykare Health offers pre-medical counselling to ease concerns. Once a procedure is chosen, their "KareBuddy" system provides dedicated care coordinators who guide patients through appointments, insurance processes, and follow-up visits. From pick-up and drop-off services to personalized medical support, Mykare aims to reduce stress and promote recovery.

Overcoming Barriers to Better Care

In addition to hands-on patient support, Mykare’s in-house insurance team navigates complex insurance conditions, ensuring patients understand what reimbursements to expect. Financial assistance like zero-cost EMIs is also available, boosting accessibility. This innovative model has already facilitated over 14,000 surgeries and counseled more than 100,000 patients across 250 hospitals in 12 South Indian cities.

A Vision for the Future

Mykare Health’s mission stems from the founders’ personal journeys and an unwavering belief in transforming patient experiences. “Care is missing in healthcare for the middle and lower income class in India,” Senu asserts. By fostering transparency, efficiency, and empathy, Mykare Health is changing the face of non-emergency surgical care—one patient at a time.
