From wildlife protection to water conservation, Padmaja Rathore's Bagheera's Camp in Rajasthan’s Jawai region exemplifies a sustainable approach to eco-tourism, engaging local communities and restoring native habitats for future generations.

In the heart of Rajasthan's Godwar region, Padmaja Rathore stands as a beacon of environmental resilience and community empowerment. Leading the transformative initiative known as Bagheera’s Camp, Rathore aims to restore and protect the region’s natural ecosystem through wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism. Inspired by her parents, Padmaja's journey started with the creation of a community reserve, uniquely blending hospitality with conservation education and collaboration. Her Rewilding Jawai project addresses the pressing ecological challenges of habitat destruction, over-tourism, and industrial encroachment, restoring vital water resources and reviving dwindling wildlife populations.

Unlike traditional luxury safaris, Bagheera’s Camp provides an immersive experience focused on environmental respect, using locally sourced materials and native flora to protect Rajasthan’s delicate ecosystems. Padmaja’s efforts, including the reintroduction of native plants and the preservation of endangered species like the Indian Sloth Bear and Indian Bustard, emphasize the importance of harmony between humans and nature.

Beyond environmental conservation, Bagheera’s Camp invests heavily in local communities, offering skill development programs for tribal groups and creating employment opportunities that empower individuals to become stewards of their land. Women from the region, for instance, have taken active roles in conservation efforts, confronting poaching and leading reforestation activities.

Padmaja’s mission extends to future generations through the Raj Dadisa Badan Kanwar School of Self Study, providing hospitality and environmental training to those from underprivileged backgrounds. The impact of Padmaja’s vision is far-reaching, with Bagheera’s Camp inspiring change not only through its conservation successes but by fostering a profound sense of belonging and purpose among locals and visitors alike.
