"Soldier's Courage Shines: Leads Wayanad Rescue Mission After Losing Four Family Members in Landslide"
In a remarkable display of duty and resilience, Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Jinosh Jayan of the Indian Army has continued to play a significant role in rescue operations in Wayanad, Kerala, despite suffering a heartbreaking personal loss. The soldier, who hails from the landslide-hit village of Chooralmala, lost four members of his family in the recent disaster. His uncle, cousin, cousin’s wife, and their 21-year-old daughter were among the victims.
JCO Jinosh, serving with the 321 Medium Regiment, was stationed in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, when he received the devastating news. After learning about the landslide and the loss of his family members, he immediately sought emergency leave and returned to his hometown. Despite his grief, Jinosh joined the ongoing rescue efforts alongside teams from the Army's Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
His intimate knowledge of the local terrain proved crucial in navigating the challenging conditions of the disaster-stricken area. Drawing upon his expertise as a surveyor, Jinosh created detailed hand-drawn maps that greatly aided the rescue teams in their search for survivors and victims.
Since August 1, Jinosh has remained an integral part of the relief operations, working tirelessly to locate and recover those affected by the landslide. His efforts have been recognized and commended by senior police officials, including Additional Director General of Police M.R. Ajith Kumar and Inspector General M.R. Sethu Raman.
Even as many forces deployed to Wayanad have begun to withdraw, JCO Jinosh continues to lead small teams in ongoing search operations in the remote areas around the disaster site. His dedication and courage in the face of personal tragedy have earned him widespread admiration and respect.
