Turning Trash into Treasure: How Two Friends Revolutionized Waste with Plastic-Based Cement

Rishabh Patel and Nitin Yadav, founders of Dump In Bin, are tackling the plastic waste crisis with innovation and determination. By recycling plastic into usable industrial materials and creating a groundbreaking alternative to cement called PLAVE, they are transforming waste management and construction.

From a Casual Drive to a Life-Changing Vision

The idea for Dump In Bin was sparked during a drive along the Delhi-Jaipur highway in 2016 when Rishabh Patel saw piles of waste. Instead of turning a blind eye, he envisioned opportunities amid the trash. Partnering with his college friend Nitin Yadav, the duo decided to address the growing problem of plastic waste.

Initially, they worked with kabadi wallas (small-scale waste collectors) around Delhi, building relationships and focusing on industrial plastic waste. Through trial and error, they developed expertise in segregating and recycling high-grade plastics, particularly for the automotive industry.

PLAVE: A Breakthrough in Sustainable Construction

Driven by a vision to create a tangible solution to waste, Rishabh and Nitin innovated PLAVE, a sustainable alternative to cement made from recycled plastic and demolition debris. Cement, which accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions, needed a greener substitute, and PLAVE delivers just that.

This material is now used for permeable pavements, allowing water to recharge groundwater, reducing flooding, and contributing to sustainable urban development.

Impact Beyond Business

Dump In Bin has recycled over 48 lakh kilograms of plastic and generates Rs. 10 lakh in monthly revenue. Beyond profitability, the company is committed to social impact. Collaborations with apartment complexes and ragpickers aim to make waste management dignified and sustainable.

Rishabh and Nitin continue to expand operations, set up Material Recovery Facilities, and explore new ways to reduce plastic consumption. Their journey is a testament to turning challenges into opportunities and transforming waste into a resource for a better future.
